Why Some Instructors Become “It” Instructors
(And it’s not because of their programming)
I’ve taken thousands of classes at this point. Different cities, different studios, different modalities. And here’s what I can tell you: there are a lot of technically good instructors. Certified. Thoughtful programming. Clean cueing. Solid sequencing. On paper, they’re great.
And yet only a handful become “it.” The ones whose classes waitlist instantly. The ones clients rearrange their schedules for. The ones the it girls quietly gravitate toward. The ones who somehow turn a 50-minute workout into something people talk about over matcha after.
Now this is not everyone’s goal. And if that’s not your goal, this post might not be for you. But if your goal is to become a top instructor, who builds an obsession worthy brand, then read on…
I’m not an instructor, I never have been and I never will be (never say never, but unlikely). Instead, I’m more focused on brand marketing and human behavior. And after taking thousands of classes, studying instructors, studios and classes and investing in boutique fitness studios - I’ve recognized many patterns.
The difference starts with identity.
